Having a formal/ official relationship with a respected senior within an industry or organization is valuable to both the mentee and mentor, and had advantages to the organization in that it is an effective people development strategy and one that can support succession plans.

One comment I heard was “I expected it to be a room full of people on laptops” – but not one was in sight – sure occasionally people tweeted on their phone – but this was about real people building real relationships and connections.
