Growth – Identifying Key Leadership Skills – a global perspective
It’s not just about what, but when and where.
This piece lists the key or core leadership skills as (in order of importance):
- Strategy
- Talent Management
- Change Management
- Innovation
- Business Acumen
- Global Leadership
- Strategic Execution
- Customer Focus
- Communication
Now this data is for the Indian economy, however what we know about much of the way India does its education and development, is that it is heavily based on the values of US & UK environments. We also know that as a country, it is undergoing significant economic growth and change.
For me what is important about this list is the emphasis on change and direction, rather than customer focus, where the drive for customer satisfaction is at the point of delivery, rather then in the strategy.
Importance of Talent Management
The fact that Talent Management is right at the top of key leadership skills is an interesting one. If you have the right people, then delivering strategy and other factors is easier.
Training & Development Trend
The fact that India is a mobile technology driven economy is interesting, as is the fact that mobile learning is not seen as critical. however the move from classroom to “blended” (a mix of solution methods rather than just one for a given need) is interesting. India as a country has been historically driven by classroom learning, more so than the west.
Are these skills and competencies just as important for leaders in other cultures?
