Leadership – what you want & what you get
Whilst looking for some information on international leadership, I came across this data from KellyOCG.
What I found interesting is that often you hear complaints about the leadership in the UK or the US not being “up to standard”. In this survey, interestingly the UK & US are not in the top “dissatisfied” areas.
But what is worrying is the fact that less than half of employees feel inspired by their boss to do their best.
29% say their managers are autocratic and this is the least welcome management style (no surprise there then!)
The challenge for business is to look at middle and first line managers and ask ourselves, are we giving them the tools to do the job right, and get the best from our people?
Leadership – what you want & what you get
For years, first line and middle manager training has taken a significant hit. Maybe it’s time to look at this critical population again and revise our plans.
For firms that do this, one thing is for sure, either do it properly or do not do it at all. Doing this on the cheap, will often mean using low quality facilitators, with little REAL experience. Thus performance will not be improved, but cost will have been added.
If you are doing this for a “price” – look for a different solution.
For the organisations of the future that will survive, will be the ones that thrive and develop when things are tough, not just when things are going well.
