Uses of SMART Goals or Objectives
Remember the SMART approach is a TEST to be carried out after writing the goals to test its validity and viability – it is not an order to be followed or a constraint to be applied when developing goals or objectives.
SMART Goals can be used in a wide range of setting including – personal growth, performance management, project management, program management, appraisals, personal development plans and personal learning logs etc
| Specific | Measurable | Achievable | Realistic | Time |
| Objectives should specify what they need to achieve | You should be able to measure whether you are meeting the objectives or not | Are the objectives you set, achievable and attainable? | Can you realistically achieve the objectives with the resources you have? | When do you want to achieve the set objectives? |
