No matter where you are in a business, internal communication tools are increasing, and we are expected to write a blog. Many of us either hate the thought of writing or just cannot be motivated to do it.
Whilst researching something I came across a great tip for blog writers. This blog shares some of that.
How long should a blog be?
Some research was done into some of the most popular blogs on the internet suggests that successful blogs are between 250 and 600 words. This is a lot less than people think. A blog only needs to be as long as it needs to communicate the intended message.
How often should you write a blog?
This depends on why you are blogging. The phrase is regularly, daily, weekly or monthly. It is best to write once a month, than weekly, then nothing for months. Readers get used to the regularity that you develop.
What we also know from a learning and psychology point of view, is that the more often you do something, the easier it gets. Blogging only monthly means that each time the month comes around, it’s almost like starting again, this is the same reason many in business dislike budgets, they do it so infrequently that it feels like learning it each time.
Weekly is best. Take just 1 hour to write a few words on a topic that it is important for you to communicate about.
>>>above this point is 250 words.. not very long is it? Could you write that once a week on what you do or know?
You are a blog reader, or you would not be looking at this, do you prefer longer or shorter posts?
96 seconds
The average person reading a blog spends just 96 seconds according to this https://problogger.com/how-long-do-your-readers-stay-at-your-blog-length-of-stay-statistics/
Average readers are the majority and only reach around 200 wpm with a typical comprehension of 60% – According to www.readingsoft.com/
This means that in 96 seconds the average reader will read 300 words. These things seem to relate!
