The 2017 CIPD Learning and Development show (CIPDLDSHOW) at Olympia started much like many others. Only this time there were significant queues waiting to get in at the start time. Everyone was greeted by probably the happiest being in the building:
Yes full blown bag searches and a “meet and greet” by a sniffer dog”. Not sure why HR people would be at a risk. No metal detectors – so anyone wanting to …. well lets just leave that there!
Over the years more and more people blog and tweet about the event, just look at the twitter hashtag to see a lot of what was going on: https://twitter.com/search?q=%23cipdldshow&src=typd
In recent times we have partnered up with Martin Couzins of LearnPatch and we meet up after each session and share our ‘takeaways’ or thoughts. Sometimes this is easier to do than other times! Each year we have a different theme to the way we do them. Last year it was “Green BeanBag thoughts” this year it is “Conference Skinny”

Skinny – a request for the short version of a story or event.
So here is the 2017 cipdLDshow conference in Skinny style:

Conclusions – 2017 cipdLDshow
There were many great events both in the paid for parts of the conference, and some world class speakers out in the “topic taster” areas on the exhibition floor. It just goes to show that great learning can be achieved without big budgets, if you invest the time and energy to see what is out there.
